The Porta Studio 424. The first multi-track recorder I ever used. It was very easy to use due to it's ability to record the 4 tracks on normal cassette tape. It didn’t take me long to start taping over some of my favorite music tapes because I needed new media to record new tracks on.

The porta studio that my friend let me have had already seen years of use as well as damage. At times the power would just cut out all together and I’d have to wake up Each day and wonder if I could use it or not. But it was free, so I did not complain : )

When it did work, it was perfect for me. I was just starting out with recording and this was just what I needed. It had a low & high band eq, separate volume knobs for each track preview. It had the ability for 1 FX send, but at that time I had no idea what that was, so I never used it.

As soon as my friend showed me how to bounce the 4 tracks to 1 track I was off and running................... And had allot more tape hiss as a result. As time went on, one day a friend and I opened it up, and thinking we found it's main problem with the power, fixed the wiring.

It never worked again after that. But for those days it definitely proved itself Worthy and was definitely one of the most important learning tools I ever had.
